What is Foster Care

What is Foster Care

As per the model guidelines of Foster Care –

“Foster Care” means placement of a child, by the Committee for the purpose of alternate care in the domestic environment of a family, other than the child’s biological family, that has been selected, qualified, approved and supervised for providing such care.

In other words –

Foster care is a temporary living arrangement in which a non-relative couple or single parent provides care and protection for an orphaned child or a child who cannot temporarily or permanently return to his/her family of origin. Unlike adoption, a child in foster care remains the legal responsibility of the State and the biological parents.
